NANAIMO — A significant motor vehicle incident has claimed the life of one person.
RCMP report an individual was killed after being hit by a vehicle along Hwy. 19, near the Shell service station at Lantzville Rd., shortly after 6 p.m. on Friday, March 20.
Few details about the nature of the incident are available, however RCMP tell NanaimoNewsNOW they have personnel on scene and will be redirecting traffic where possible for several hours.
Northbound traffic was expected to open up between 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., while southbound traffic is expected to take much longer to clear as the investigation takes place.
DriveBC highway cameras show considerable backups both northbound and southbound either side of the incident.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area or delay their trips wherever possible, with Mounties asking for patience for those caught in traffic due to the incident.
