NANAIMO — A sizable workplace theft resulted in a substantial restitution order applied against a Nanaimo man.
Leland Robert Dresser, 28, was sentenced on Friday, Jan. 23 at Nanaimo Law Courts after pleading guilty to a theft over $5,000 charge.
The conviction resulted from a theft scheme involving the ATM machine at the offender’s former workplace, The Cranberry Arms Pub in Cedar.

Nanaimo RCMP report the theft from the pub’s cash machine had occurred over the course of an extended period of time, with Dresser eventually confessing.
Dresser was handed a six month non custodial conditional sentence, followed by a 12-month probation order.
Allegations of Dresser’s illegal conduct first came to the attention of Nanaimo RCMP in August 2024.
Following the police investigation, a fraud charge against Dresser was approved by the BC Prosecution Service in October 2024.
He eventually agreed to plead guilty to a downgraded offence of theft over $5,000.
The 28-year-old had no prior criminal record.
