NANAIMO — A busy block near downtown Nanaimo is temporarily closed due to a natural gas leak.
Nanaimo RCMP Res. Cst. Gary O’Brien said a gas leak forced the full closure of Terminal Ave. N between Townsite Rd. and Rosehill St.
“It will be shut down for at least two hours,” O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW on Tuesday, Oct 14, at 2:30 p.m.
He said detours are in place, while police noted a two-vehicle crash caused the gas line break.
O’Brien stated crews from Fortis BC were on scene addressing the leak on Terminal Ave. N, north of the Townsite Rd. intersection.
Nanaimo Fire Rescue responded at about 1:30 p.m., with the incident classified as a hazardous material callout.
