PARKSVILLE — After over ten days of fire crews working day and night on the Wesley Ridge wildfire, the BC Wildfire Service says the fire is no longer burning out of control.
At 588 hecatres in size, the wildfire burning north of Cameron Lake since July 31, was marked as ‘being held’ as of 9:00 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 11, meaning it is expected to remain within its current perimeter.
A more detailed update on the wildfire is expected from the BC Wildfire Service and officials with the Regional District of Nanaimo on Monday morning, including an update on the hundreds of properties still under evacuation order and alert.
A third of evacuated properties north of Cameron Lake were allowed to return home last week.
While there have been no reported injuries or damage to homes or major infrastructure, at least two railway trestle bridges in the area have been destroyed, with at least one more suffering major damage.
NanaimoNewsNOW will update this story following the Monday update from the BC Wildfire Service.
