NANAIMO — A local country singer and ‘American Idol’ star is tied for the most nominations heading into this year’s Canadian Country Music Association Awards.
Cameron Whitcomb, 22, picked up six nominations, including for fan’s choice, male artist of the year, entertainer of the year, and single of the year for his song “Quitter” in his first time being nominated.
He’s tied with breakout country singer Josh Ross for the most nominations.
Whitcomb rose to fame after finishing in the top 20 finalists on ‘American Idol’ in 2022, winning over fans and judges alike with his backflips and vocal acrobatics.
Whitcomb was also announced as one of the performers at the awards show this year, alongside Madeline Merlo, Dallas Smith and Tyler Joe Miller.
Comedian Tom Green will host the proceedings, which air live on Sept. 13, from Kelowna, airing on CTV and its online platforms.
Whitcomb grew up in Nanaimo before moving to the Kamloops area.
