NANAIMO — A lengthy section of the Nanaimo Parkway remains closed after an early morning crash involving at least one vehicle.
Drive BC reports a vehicle incident near the Parkway and south Jingle Pot Rd. intersection shortly after 4 a.m. on Thursday Feb. 20, with emergency first responders closing one of the two major highways through Nanaimo between Northfield Rd. and Cedar Rd.
The incident reportedly involved a vehicle travelling along the Parkway which hit a semi-truck at the intersection.
The vehicle then flipped as it left the roadway and caught fire in some trees nearby.

Residents nearby reported seeing a BC Emergency Health Services Air Ambulance leaving the area shortly after the crash.
Significant delays are expected throughout Nanaimo as a result of the crash.
Crews on scene expected the Parkway to remain closed until late morning or early afternoon. An RCMP drone was seen flying over the accident scene, collecting video evidence, at around 9:30 a.m.
Heavy traffic volumes were seen along the Old Island Hwy. and several main arterial roads, including Bowen Rd., Wakesiah Ave. and through downtown Nanaimo.
Commuters are advised to allow extra time to get to where they need to be this morning.
