NANAIMO — An eight-year-old boy is in hospital after he was hit by a vehicle in a school parking lot shortly before classes started Tuesday morning.
Nanaimo RCMP said the incident occurred just after 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 17 in the parking lot of the Discovery Montessori School at 3460 Jingle Pot Rd.
RCMP Reserve Cst. Gary O’Brien said multiple people witnessed the incident and spoke with RCMP, along with paramedics from B.C. Emergency Health Services.
“The youth was taken to local hospital with serious injuries, the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, and the investigation is continuing.”
No word on any cause of the incident.
Traffic was slowed along Jingle Pot Rd. directly in front of the school as emergency services attended.
Discovery Montessori School is an independent school and child care facility, with a focus on hand-on, self-directed learning.
