NANAIMO — Police say a 50-year-old man was stabbed in the public washrooms at Maffeo Sutton Park Wednesday morning.
In a news release, Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Sherri Wade stated a 50-year-old man was assaulted with a weapon, while the suspect took off.
Cst. Wade stated the victim provided a detailed statement to police before he was taken to Nanaimo hospital.
Circumstances surrounding the stabbing and the weapon involved aren’t known at this time.
The City of Nanaimo confirmed one of its employee’s was the victim.
“The City can confirm that an employee was injured at Maffeo Sutton Park this morning. While it is a personnel matter, we can tell you that the employee was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure and is being assessed by doctors. We have arranged a City representative to stay with the employee,” stated the City’s general manager of Engineering and Public Works Bill Sims.
