NANAIMO — Police believe they’ve found the man responsible for a highly disturbing public assault on a sidewalk near downtown Nanaimo.
Brent Giles George Houle, 45, is charged with aggravated assault in connection with a severe beating resulting in serious injuries to another man on Nicol St. between Finlayson and Milton streets on Oct. 8 at around 10:30 a.m.
The charge against Houle was approved by the BC Prosecution Service on Nov. 8, resulting in an arrest warrant issued against the accused.
Police say Houle was detained on an unrelated trespassing investigation last week and remains in custody.
He’s due in court on Dec. 10.
Nanaimo RCMP noted surveillance video footage from nearby businesses assisted their investigation into the Nicol St. attack.
Court records showed Houle has an extensive criminal record throughout the province, including the Nanaimo area.
