PORT ALBERNI – The Clippers perfect start to the season came to an end with a 3-2 loss to the Capitals.
Nolan Hutcheson got the Clippers on the board in the first period but Cowichan grabbed the next three goals to take a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes.
Ethan Jones scored the only goal of the third frame as Nanaimo outshot the Capitals 10-7.
First star Lucas Pfeill made 35 saves to help guide his team to the win. Jordan Naylor stopped 32 shots and had little chance on a highlight reel game winner by Jackson Alexeev late in the second period.
Neither team scored on the man advantage with the power plays finishing four to two in favour of the Clippers.
The two teams just played three times in six days and will battle again April 13 at Weyerhauser Arena.
Nanaimo’s next game is April 10 against the Victoria Grizzlies at 7 p.m.
