NANAIMO – The first exposure event at a Nanaimo school following spring break began the first day students returned to the classroom.
SD68 confirmed Wellington Secondary suffered an exposure event on Monday, March 29 and Tuesday, March 30.
It is the first exposure after Spring Break in SD68, but not the first for Island Health.
SD61 in the Greater Victoria area also confirmed a COVID-19 exposure event.
A letter from the Vancouver Island COVID Rapid Response Team, which operates out of SD68 for the entire Island, warned parents of a “significant number of exposures at schools in the weeks to come.”
All students between grades 4 and 12 within SD68 are now asked to wear masks at all times when indoors, even at their individual desks.
Island Health saw 57 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, March 31 with the most active cases yet during the pandemic.
