NANAIMO — A hardened prolific criminal was sentenced to one year in jail following a lengthy run of property crimes in Nanaimo, Alberta and the Lower Mainland area.
Leon Edward Sprlak, 41, was jailed during a recent sentencing hearing in provincial court in Nanaimo.
Sprlak pleaded guilty to 13 charges, including a pair of break-ins in Nanaimo in November 2019 and February 2020.
He was convicted of stealing mail and a mischief offence in Nanaimo, while he was also sentenced for property crimes in Stirling, AB, Delta and Whistler.
The offender was handed two years probation and ordered to submit a DNA sample.
Court records showed four other charges against Sprlak were dropped.
Sprlak has a lengthy history with Nanaimo RCMP and the local judicial system.
He’s been in and out of jail for most of his adult life, primarily for property crimes in Nanaimo.
