NANAIMO — Evacuation orders were issued for two areas within the Nanaimo Regional District after days of heavy rain.
The RDN issued the alerts for 380 Martindale Rd. in Parksville and 1698 Wilkinson Rd. near Cedar around 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 2 “due to the potential danger to life and health from flooding.”
Martindale Rd. was closed by authorities shortly after the evacuation alert was issued.
Both properties are near rivers.
Parrys RV Park at the Martindale Rd. property is no stranger to flooding. More than 20 people were evacuated during a heavy rainfall event at the end of January, 2018.
Environment Canada predicts there will be little break from the rain throughout the rest of the week.
Anyone enjoying a rainy walk near a river or body of water is urged to be careful and avoid treacherous footing.
