NANAIMO – Island Health has confirmed COVID-19 spread within one unit of a long-term care home in Nanaimo.
A release just before 5:30 on Monday, Dec. 28 said an additional case of COVID-19 was found at the Chartwell Malaspina Care Residence, after the first case was announced the day before.
The second confirmed case was in close contact with the first.
“The residents who tested positive have been isolated to their rooms and the affected unit has been isolated from the rest of the building,” the release said.
“The outbreak remains limited to one unit on the first floor of the facility at this time.”
All admissions, transfers and visitations have stopped.
Island Health contact tracers are currently working to determine how the virus managed to enter the long-term care home.
