QUALICUM BEACH — A man died after a head-on crash on Rupert Rd. in Qualicum Beach.
Oceanside RCMP say it happened on Thursday, Dec. 17 at about 3:15 p.m just west of Jones St. where it appeared the driver of an SUV left his lane and hit an oncoming pickup.
A 52-year-old Coombs man driving a truck was pronounced dead on scene. The other driver, a 35-year-old Parksville man, was airlifted to hospital and in stable condition, according to Oceanside RCMP.
There were no passengers in the vehicles.
Numerous witnesses provided statements to the RCMP on scene. Police are continuing their investigation to determine what factors led to the fatal crash.

Well traveled Rupert Rd. was closed for several hours as police investigated. The road’s speed limit is 70 kilometers an hour.
