NANAIMO – RCMP are investigating after a 14-year-old John Barsby student was hit by a vehicle while walking to school Tuesday morning.
Emergency crews were called to Bruce Ave., near Seventh St. around 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3 after the student was hit at a crosswalk.
Cst. Gary O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW the student was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
“The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, cooperated with police. The youth sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries.”
Police closed traffic along Bruce Ave. while conducting their investigation, detouring traffic around the scene.
The cause of the crash has not been determined.
“No decision has been made on contributing factors such as the weather, the speed of the vehicle, any distractions of the youth walking through the crosswalk…we’re looking for earbuds, clothing, the usual factors.
