NANAIMO – The total number of COVID-19 cases within Island Health remains unchanged.
A statement from provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry on Wednesday, Oct. 21 confirmed there’s been 244 cases of COVID-19 found within Island Health since the beginning of the pandemic.
This is unchanged from Tuesday, Oct. 20, when one new case within Island Health was confirmed.
Oct. 2 was the last time the Island Health region went without a new COVID-19 case.
There are currently no hospitalizations within Island Health.
Across B.C., a new record of 203 daily cases was announced.
The number of active cases rose to 1,766, with 70 people in hospital and 21 in intensive care.
Dr. Henry confirmed three new health-care facility outbreaks, while two were ended.
There’s currently 18 outbreaks in long-term care and two in acute-care facilities.
Two more people passed away, for a death toll of 256 due to COVID-19.
