NANAIMO – The man accused of killing a Nanaimo teenager will go to trial.
Bacon entered a not guilty plea at provincial court in Nanaimo on Monday, Oct. 19. It was his second appearance in a Nanaimo court, by video, after a first-degree murder charge was laid in September.
The plea comes more than three years after he was listed as a person of interest in the disappearance of Chang in March, 2017.
Police at the time said Bacon had a relationship with the teen. His house was searched by investigators for several days following her disappearance.
Her body was discovered in May, 2017.
Bacon had left Nanaimo during the investigation, to be found in Ontario before Chang’s body was discovered. He was then charged with a variety of sexual offenses in Ontario in early 2020.
He remains in custody in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
His case has been adjourned until Dec. 1.
