NANAIMO – Time is running out to pay your property tax bill and avoid late fees.
Late payment penalities of five per cent apply in all mid island municipalities on Oct. 1.
The payment windows were pushed back from the usual early July deadline in Nanaimo, Ladysmith, Lantzville, Parksville and Qualicum Beach as a COVID-19 relief measure.
Taxes were due on July 2 for electoral areas of the Regional District of Nanaimo.
City of Nanaimo’s manager of revenue services Barbara Wardill told NanaimoNewsNOW about 88 per cent of 2020 property owners had paid their taxes, which is only three per cent below the compliance rate in a typical year.
In Nanaimo a second five per cent late property tax payment penalty will apply on Nov. 12.
Extended user rate payments were also implemented regionally to provide a bit of relief for impacted taxpayers.
