QUALICUM BEACH – Investigators believe alcohol may have played a role in a serious crash on Hwy. 19.
Cpl. Mike Halskov with BC RCMP Traffic Services said a southbound Chevrolet HHR clipped a vehicle it was passing on Friday, Sept. 11 at the Hwy. 19 and Hwy. 4 off ramp west of Qualicum Beach.
Both cars lost control, with the Chevrolet leaving the highway and rolling. The driver was ejected and suffered serious injuries.
“Police are investigating impairment and lack of seatbelts as contributing factors to this crash,” Halskov said in a release.
The woman in the clipped car received non-life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.
Central Vancouver Island Traffic Services continues to ask witnesses of the crash or those who saw the car before the crash to come forward.
The accident closed the southbound lanes and backed up traffic for several hours.
