NANAIMO — The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) is looking for a number of volunteers to fill its advisory committees.
With terms ranging from one to three years, members of the public with interest in parks, recreation, culture, agriculture, waste management, planning, climate, or drinking water and watershed protection are encouraged to apply for a spot before the Nov. 4 deadline.
According to a release from the RDN, these advisory committees rely on the knowledge and perspectives of community volunteers, and “provide a focal point for co-operation between community interests and the RDN on local governance matters, advise on a wide range of projects and work with community and neighbourhood groups.”
This year, the RDN is accepting applications for the Board of Variance, as well as several committees as follows:
• Electoral Area A Parks, Recreation, and Culture Committee.
• Parks and Open Space Advisory Committees (Electoral Areas B, C, E, F, G and H).
• Agricultural Advisory Committee.
• Climate Action Technical Advisory Committee.
• Drinking Water & Watershed Protection Technical Advisory Committee.
• Liquid Waste Management Plan Monitoring Committee.
• Solid Waste Management Plan Monitoring Advisory Committee.
The RDN board appoints members to the various committees through an open application process.
Appointments begin on Jan. 1, 2027 and run until Dec. 31, of the applicable one- to three-year term.
