PARKSVILLE — One person was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a crash along the Island Hwy.
The incident occurred just after 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18 in the northbound lanes of Hwy. 19 at the Church Rd. overpass, north of the Hwy. 4A interchange, and involved a vehicle travelling northbound losing control and driving off the roadway.
A B.C. Emergency Health Services air ambulance dispatched from nearby Qualicum Beach Airport attended the scene and flew the driver to hospital.
Northbound traffic was blocked off in the area for several hours, eventually re-opening around 7 p.m., while southbound traffic was largely unaffected.
Vehicles were directed through Parksville along Hwy. 19A, or down Hwy. 4A as a detour.
