PARKSVILLE — One local lottery player has received an early Christmas gift.
Results from the Tuesday, Dec. 23 Lotto Max draw, published by the BC Lottery Corporation, show a ticket sold in Parksville matched all four numbers in the Extra Prize draw, claiming $500,000.
Winners have up to a year from the draw date to claim their prize.
Tuesday’s win is another example of local lotto players hoarding horseshoes and winning big prizes, with nearly three dozen winners of $500,000 or more being from the Nanaimo and Oceanside area since 2012.
A Qualicum Beach woman, Ann Maybee, won $500,000 in September through the same Extra Prize draw, while a Nanaimo man picked up over $213,000.
BCLC also reported a $500,000 prize went to a ticket sold in Nanoose Bay for an April draw, but was unclaimed.
The jackpot for the Lotto Max draw on Tuesday was $80 million, however no players matched all the numbers.
One Ontario player won $1.2 million by getting six of seven.
