NANAIMO — Local Mounties are trying to identify an individual who may have tried to ignite a residential fence.
Police were alerted by a resident in the 1600 block of Mallard Dr., near Northfield Rd. around 9:15 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 19, after they spotted a person walking around in their backyard.
The suspect had fled by the time police arrived, with several fence panels in the backyard left with fresh burn marks.
“The Nanaimo RCMP is requesting that residents of the 1600 block of Mallard Dr. review any home surveillance systems and dash cameras between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 19, 2025,” a statement from the detachment reads.
The suspect was wearing a light-coloured hoodie and sweatpants, a hat and black shoes.
Police say the individual was carrying both a “fanny pack” style bag across their chest, as well as a second, smaller bag in their hand.
Anyone with information on the individual or the alleged arson is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP detachment at 250-754-2345.
