DUNCAN — The Clippers ended their season series with the Cowichan Valley Capitals with a 5-4 loss.
After winning the three head to head matchups Nanaimo lost four games in a row, including one in overtime.
The game also marked the conclusion of the first half of the BCHL season.
Nanaimo’s record was 14-11-2 which is a large improvement over the team’s 10-15-2 record from 2024.
Tanner Bruender opened the scoring for the Clippers and Hayden Fechner also tallied in the opening period.
Cowichan Valley pressed in the second period, first with a disallowed power play goal and then a pair of goals in a two minute span at five on five and on the man advantage.
Early in the final frame the Capitals used another power play goal to vault out to a 5-2 lead.
From there Patrick Fortune notched consecutive markers but Cowichan held on for the victory,
The Capitals had a pair of goals from Tristan Gravenor and singles from Ryan Harvey, Massimo Fazio and Elijah Kim.
Nanaimo outshot Cowichan 36-31 but lost the special teams battle going 0/2 on the man advantage and 2/4 on the penalty kill.
Nanaimo wraps up the pre-Christmas schedule with a home game against Alberni Valley on Dec. 19 and a road contest at Victoria on Dec. 20.
