NANAIMO — Clippers forward Sam Boisvert is back where he started his junior career.
After playing 63 games with 23 points for the team in 2023 and 2024 the Mirabel, Quebec native has returned to Nanaimo from Baie-Comeau of the QMJHL.
Boisvert is thrilled to be wearing a Clippers jersey once again.
“I love this group, I think we have a really good team this year and I’m happy to be back. I really appreciate the role I have right now. I’m working to dial it in right now and I’ve enjoyed playing with Fechner. I think we could be a good line all year.”
There was a draw to return to his home province and to experience the QMJHL the 19-year-old was productive.
He had 31 points in 38 games last season and one assist in three games at the start of this season.
“I did it because I kind of missed home and I wanted to go back. I had a lot of fun and it was really good to see how the league is there. I saw my mom often. Even if we would play an hour from my home town or she would come out two or three hours.”
Boisvert said he is a better player now than when he left the club in the fall of 2024.
“I gained some weight, I’m stronger on the puck. I’m more patient now. I hold on to the puck longer to make plays instead of just dumping it.”
After four games with the Clippers, Boivert has put up a goal and four assists but he’s more concerned with team goals and the possibility to win a championship in his final year of junior hockey eligibility before he moves on to the Division 1 University of Connecticut Huskies.
“Winning comes first but it feels good to put up points. I think I have a lot more in me so I’m just going to keep going and see what happens.”
Boisvert and the Clippers play a weekend road series in Powell River on Friday, Oct. 24 and Saturday, Oct. 25 before wrapping a busy 11-game month at home against the Victoria Grizzlies on Halloween night.
