NANAIMO — A man accused of being involved in a gang-connected murder behind a local fast food restaurant will not be granted bail.
Ronald Joseph Campbell, 42, made the application in B.C. Supreme Court in Nanaimo on Wednesday, April 16, which was denied by Justice Andrew Majawa.
Campbell will now await trial behind bars for his alleged involvement in the targeted shooting of Yasin Khan in the Wendy’s restaurant parking lot on the Island Hwy. near Rock City Centre on May 20, 2021.
He faces one count of first-degree murder, indicating prosecutors believe the crime was both planned and deliberate. If convicted, Campbell would face a mandatory life sentence, with no eligibility for parole for 25 years.

A preliminary inquiry is expected in September followed by an expected Supreme Court jury trial either later in the year or early 2026.
The shooting came in the mid-afternoon, when multiple shots were fired into a parked vehicle with Khan found dead inside.
Witnesses to the incident reported seeing a white SUV speeding away immediately after the gunshots with police quickly linking the incident to growing gang violence from the Lower Mainland.
Mounties made three arrests in the aftermath of the shooting, tracking the vehicle to a hotel in Nanaimo’s north end.
Police said at the time all three had known connections to the Lower Mainland.
Investigators also said they believed the vehicle, and likely the three involved, were in the Nanaimo area for several days prior to the shooting.
Campbell was charged in July 2024.
