NANAIMO — The city’s crown jewel park is looking a little more patriotic this spring.
Usually decorated with an array of international flags, the gallery at Maffeo Sutton Park, overlooking the Comox Rd./Terminal Ave. intersection, is instead a sea of red and white courtesy members of the Nanaimo International Folk Festival Society.
The Society approached the City with an idea to change up the display, with the City approving of the concept.
Typically, the flags represent a number of different nations and reflects the Society’s membership on any given year.
The Canadian flags were provided by the City’s parks and recreation department and installation was completed on Wednesday, March 12.
They are installed in the spring and removed after the summer ends.
Twenty-two Canadian flags are now flying at Maffeo Sutton Park in Nanaimo, part of an annual display usually featuring flags of the world.
