LADYSMITH — Deena Beeston has been elected the new Mayor of Ladysmith after a by-election vote.
Beeston earned 854 votes during the Saturday, March 1 by-election to replace former Mayor Aaron Stone, who stepped away in fall 2024 to pursue a career opportunity in Victoria.
She beat Joe Friesenhan (504 votes), Russ Barling (279 votes), Tee Hanssen (92 votes) and Raymon Travis Farmere (six votes).
Preliminary results counted 1,740 votes, representing a 22.93 per cent voter turnout.
Beeston is a former healthcare and social services worker and currently volunteers for a number of local organizations, including the Ladysmith Home Society and FO Eagles Auxiliary.
Results from Saturday are considered preliminary, with the final results to be verified in the days to come and presented to Council at a future date.
