NANAIMO — One person was arrested and is facing a number of charges after an apparent slashing-spree targeted downtown vehicles.
Police were called to several vehicles along the 200 block of Franklyn St. as well as the 300 block of Selby St., finding 23 vehicles with slashed tires.
The spree occurred in the early morning hours of Monday, Nov. 11.
“Surveillance video of the parking lot recorded a male parking and exiting a car, walking from vehicle to vehicle, slashing tires, and then driving away,” a release from the detachment read.
The investigation was a quick one for Mounties, as a vehicle matching the one seen in the video was founded by officers a short distance from the crime scene.
“The officer identified the car’s registered owner and the owner’s address. Police attended the residence and identified the registered owner as the male in the video.”
The man was arrested without incident, but later released pending future court dates.
Police note their investigation is ongoing “and criminal charges will be forthcoming”.
Investigators are asking anyone with security or dash cam footage of the area in question, during the early morning hours of Monday, to contact the Nanaimo RCMP at 250 754 2345, quoting file number 2024-36980.
