NANAIMO — A man is dead and police are looking for who struck him in Cedar Thursday night.
Nanaimo RCMP stated the incident happened at about 7 p.m. on Harmac Rd. immediately east of the bridge spanning the Nanaimo River.
“Police, Fire and BCEHS attended. Despite the valiant efforts of bystanders and first responders who administered emergency first aid and CPR, the man was determined to be deceased at the scene,” a Nanaimo RCMP news release read.
Police noted it appears the victim was walking along the side of the road when he was hit by an unidentified motorist who then took off.
“Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the driver and vehicle involved. Investigators are seeking witnesses and dash cam footage from anyone in the area between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.”
The impacted section of road was closed overnight.
