NANAIMO — Failure of a backup system on board the Queen of Oak Bay is forcing schedule tweaks for BC Ferries.
The company announced on Friday, July 12 they’ve cancelled both the 9:05 a.m. and 1:40 p.m. sailings from Nanaimo’s Departure Bay, along with corresponding 6:30 a.m. and 11:25 a.m. trips from Horseshoe Bay in Vancouver.
The issue stems from “a mechanical difficulty with the vessel’s backup power supply,” according to a service notice.
Currently, the scheduled 6:20 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. departures from Nanaimo on board the vessel remain on the schedule, as do the other sailings for Friday which will be handled by the Queen of Cowichan.
Service between Duke Point and Tsawwassen is also available.
As of 9 a.m., BC Ferries was reporting vehicle space on board the 11:25 a.m. sailing was completely full, and were ticketing for the 4 p.m. crossing.
Sailings leaving Vancouver at 1:40 p.m. and 4 p.m. were also full, with agents in Horseshoe Bay ticketing vehicles for the 6:20 p.m.
Travellers are advised to check the BC Ferries website prior to heading to the terminal.
