NANAIMO — Traffic along Hwy. 19 was severely disrupted following an accident between two semi trucks.
Crews were called to the Nanaimo Parkway just north of Northfield Rd. around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 5 after two semi trucks travelling in the same direction collided.
Cst. Gary O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW one driver, a 35-year-old woman, was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries. The driver of the other semi, a 71-year-old man, was uninjured and remained at the scene.
The Parkway was closed to northbound traffic at the Northfield Rd. intersection for several hours while police investigated but later re-opened after 2:00 p.m.
The closure resulted in significant traffic delays in the area.
An investigation into the incident continues, with both vehicles due to undergo a mechanical inspection.
