NANAIMO — Island Health has extended an overdose advisory once again.
The advisory first put in place on April 20 was extended on April 27 after a spike in overdoses in the Nanaimo, Victoria, Campbell River and Comox Valley areas.
The advisory warned of an increase of overdoses from opioids and stimulants with a risk from injections and inhalants.
Anyone using substances is urged to use at the overdose prevention site on Wesley St. If that’s not possible, they’re advised to never use alone and always with Naloxone nearby.
This is the first time an advisory has been extended since the summer of 2020, when the already tainted drug supply worsened due to border closures and stresses on substance users increased due to the pandemic.
