NANAIMO — A jogger hit by a vehicle while crossing a road at night was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said the 22-year-old jogger was hit around 10:15 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 11 at the south end of Brooks Landing when an unlicensed driver turned left from Estevan Rd. onto Departure Bay Rd.
He said numerous contributing factors were at play.
“One is the weather, it was heavy rain (and) there was a lot of glare on the road. It appears the victim was crossing where there was no crosswalk.”
O’Brien said the jogger running toward the Island Hwy. was wearing black, non-reflective clothing.
“There’s an equal share of responsibility, based on everything that’s why the violation ticket was issued simply for driving without a driver’s license.”
A witness said the impact of the collision damaged the windshield of the car involved.
