NANAIMO — Police tracked down a motorist accused of hitting a department store worker who was chasing a shoplifter.
It happened Tuesday, Dec 29 at around 1 p.m. at the Canadian Tire parking lot in Nanaimo resulting in minor “road rash and bruising”, according Cst. Gary O’Brien.
He said a shoplifter ran out of the Uplands Dr. store and got into a waiting vehicle whose driver hit one of several store employees in pursuit in the parking lot.
Nanaimo Mounties were given the vehicle’s license plate and went to the Bowen Rd. home of the alleged driver and arrested him, O’Brien said.
The 27-year-old has a court date scheduled in March in relation to the criminal code offence of dangerous operation of a vehicle.
O’Brien said the suspect vehicle was estimated to be travelling 25 kilometers an hour when the employee was hit.
