NANAIMO – The outbreak at a Nanaimo long-term care home has grown.
Island Health announcing around 6 p.m. on Jan. 1, 2021 an additional case of COVID-19 was discovered at the Chartwell Malaspina Care Residence.
Six cases were confirmed since the Christmas weekend.
The new case is in a separate unit as the first five, but both are within the first floor of the care home.
“The origin of the outbreak is still under investigation,” Island Health said.
All residents and 130 staff at the facility have been tested for COVID-19, with the six returning positive results out of more than 260 tests.
The new case was discovered through mass testing protocols at the facility.
