NANAIMO – For the fourth straight day, Island Health has gone without an increase to its COVID-19 case count.
The health authority remains at 250 total cases throughout the pandemic with eight currently active.
Island Health data shows one active case on northern Vancouver Island, with four in the central region and three to the south.
Across B.C., 217 cases were confirmed Tuesday with 2,322 currently active province-wide.
Hospitalizations also increased slightly over numbers from the weekend with 84 patients currently admitted, 27 of whom in intensive or critical care wards.
The statement also pushed the wearing of masks, something provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry previously said was an expectation everywhere, but stopped short of making it an order.
“The expectation is that masks will be worn within public areas of health-care facilities, shopping malls, grocery stores, community centres and other public spaces – as you enter, exit and move around,” Tuesday’s statement read.
Monday’s announcement from Dr. Henry also outlined an amended health order limiting the number of people allowed at a gathering inside a private home.
