PARKSVILLE – A section of Hwy. 19 has been closed for a majority of the day as RCMP investigate the death of a woman in her 20’s.
Central Island Traffic Services said the woman was found dead on the median of the four lane highway near Exit 51 around 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10.
The discovery closed traffic in both directions for a nine kilometre stretch between Parksville and Qualicum Beach.
Detours were set up to route traffic along Hwy. 19A, past the closure.
Police continue to work the scene and are asking the public for help, including witnesses or dash cam footage in the area.
Information about the incident can be submitted to Central Island Traffic Services at 250 954 2953.
Officers believe the woman was hit by a vehicle, which did not stay at the scene.
The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service is assisting in the investigation.
