NANAIMO – A motorcyclist has been pronounced dead after being hit by a vehicle on the Island Hwy. at Turner Rd.
RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said it happened Friday, Oct. 2 at 2:30 p.m. when a northbound motorcyclist appeared to fail to stop at the red light. He was hit by a vehicle turning left onto the Island Hwy. from Turner Rd.
O’Brien said the man riding the bike suffered life-threatening wounds and was pronounced dead at hospital.
The highway will be closed in both directions for several hours, O’Brien said.
Northbound traffic on the Island Hwy. is closed between Oliver Rd. and Enterprise Way, while southbound traffic will be diverted at Enterprise Way.
Several side streets were heavily congested Friday afternoon as a result, in particular Metral Dr. and Uplands Dr.
