NANAIMO – The number of total cases within Island Health has increased again, however less people are currently fighting the novel coronavirus.
According to data from Island Health, two new cases were confirmed in the health authority Wednesday, Sept. 30 for a total of 208 since the start of the pandemic. Three are currently active, down from five on Tuesday.
Of the active cases, one is in the central Island area which includes Nanaimo and Parksville. The remaining cases are on southern Vancouver Island.
Provincially, 125 new cases were announced Wednesday in a statement from the province for a total of 9,138.
A total of 1,284 people are currently listed as active throughout B.C. Seventy-two people are in hospital with 21 of those in intensive care.
No additional deaths, community or healthcare system outbreaks were detected in the last 24 hours.
“While the ongoing focus is not always easy to maintain, now is the time to keep going – to continue to support and care for each other through the efforts we make,” the statement read.
