Clippers Add Two NCAA Commitments


Three year Clipper veteran Andrew Gladiuk committed to Bentley College for next season.  Number one goalie Billy Faust has also committed to the NCAA to the University of Vermont.

Andrew Gladiuk has been consistently in Nanaimo's top three scorers this season while Faust has been one of the busiest and most successful goalies in the BCHL.

In three years with Nanaimo Gladiuk has never missed a game and has played at a near point a game pace.

Faust played a back up role in Penticton last year before getting a chance to start in Nanaimo this season.

Clippers Come Back to Beat PG 3-2


The Clippers posted an impressive 3-2 come from behind win over the Spruce Kings on Saturday night.

Former Clipper Leo Fitzgerald opened the scoring with a backhander in close at 5:22.

Then Nanaimo tied it on a wrist shot by Brendan Forbes at 12:50.

Jarryd Ten Vaanholt gave Prince George the lead again at 14:13 as he beat Billy Faust on a breakaway.

That was it for the scoring until the third period.

At the 9:47 mark Kyle Kramer fed Graeme McCormack who blasted a shot high to the stick side on Kirk Thompson to even the score.

Just under two minutes later Brenden Forbes fed Mason Blacklock and his quick shot gave the Clippers the lead and the win.

The victory was only the second time this season the Clippers have erased a second period deficit.

They also managed to keep top ten scorers Paul De Jersey and Juhjar Khaira off the scoresheet as well.

Prince George had the edge in shots 37-31 and neither team could cash in the man advantage.

Nanaimo was 0/6 and the Spruce Kings went 0/5.

Next up for the Clippers a game Friday in Surrey, Nanaimo is in Victoria on Saturday.

Clippers Fall 5-1 in Vernon


Nanaimo took a 4-1-0-1 record against the Interior Conference into Vernon on Thursday but the Vipers came away with a 5-1 victory.
 
Vernon got first period goals from Aaron Hadley at 5:26 and Adam Tambellini on a power play at 10:59 to take a 2-0 lead after one.
 
The Vipers extended the lead to 3-0 with Hadley's second of the game on the man advantage 26 seconds into the second period.
 
Just 58 seconds later Luke Gordon buried his 11th of the season and third in four games to make it 3-1. 
 
Former Viper and current Clippers captain Trevor Fitzgerald picked up an assist against his old team on the goal.
 
Ex Clipper Colton Cyr got an assist on the 4-1 goal scored shorthanded by Michael Zalewski at 10:27.
 
Late in the third the Vipers added another goal when Jedd Soleway scored with 22 seconds left in the game.
 
Vernon directed 43 shots at Billy Faust while the Clippers had 33 on Vernon goalie Kirby Halcrow.
 
On special teams Nanaimo was 0/4 and Vernon went 2/7.

The Clippers are off Friday and travel to Prince George to play the Spruce Kings on Saturday.
 
With nine games remaining Nanaimo is 11 points behind Coquitlam for the final playoff spot in the Coastal Conference. 

Strong Third Period Leads Express Over Clippers


The Nanaimo Clippers dropped a 6-3 decision to the Coquitlam Express on Wednesday night.
 
It was a strong start for Nanaimo with Brenden Forbes jamming in a loose puck at 1:40 and Kyle Kramer blazing a shot past Cole Huggins at 11:43.
 
That gave the Clippers a 2-0 lead after one.
 
In the second period Coquitlam scored three goals on Billy Faust in a span of two minutes and 35 seconds to take a 3-2 lead, with goals by Malcolm McKinney, Mitch Nardi and Taylor Bourne.
 
Dan Correale evened the score at three with a solo dash off the right wing with just under a minute left in the period.
 
Coquitlam scored three goals in the third to secure the victory.
 
First Alex Petan at 2:45, then Clinton Atkinson at 11:15 and finally Affiliate Player Eric Margo into an empty net with 41 seconds remaining.
 
The Express outshot the Clippers 36-32 in the game and both teams went 0/2 on the power play.

With the loss the Clippers fall 11 points behind the Express for the final playoff spot with 10 games remaining.
 
The Express have a 5-0 record in the season series with two critical head to head games left in early March.
 
Nanaimo continues on the road this week with games in Vernon Thursday and Prince George Saturday.
