Clippers Go One for Three on the Road


The Clippers posted an impressive 3-2 come from behind win over the Spruce Kings on Saturday night.

Former Clipper Leo Fitzgerald opened the scoring with a backhander in close at 5:22.

Then Nanaimo tied it on a wrist shot by Brendan Forbes at 12:50.

Jarryd Ten Vaanholt gave Prince George the lead again at 14:13 as he beat Billy Faust on a breakaway.

At the 9:47 mark of the third Kyle Kramer fed Graeme McCormack who blasted a shot high to the stick side on Kirk Thompson to even the score.

Just under two minutes later Brenden Forbes fed Mason Blacklock and his quick shot gave the Clippers the lead and the win.

On Thursday Vernon beat the Clippers 5-1.

The Vipers got up 3-0 on two goals by Aaron Hadley and one from Adam Tambellini.

Luke Gordon got Nanaimo's only goal early in the second period. 
 
Ex Clipper Colton Cyr got an assist on the 4-1 goal scored shorthanded by Michael Zalewski at 10:27.
 
Late in the third the Vipers added another goal when Jedd Soleway scored with 22 seconds left in the game.

Starting the trip on Wednesday Nanaimo lost 6-3 in Coquitlam Brenden Forbes, Kyle Krame and Dan Correale scored for the Clippers while Malcolm McKinney, Mitch Nardi, Taylor Bourne, Alex Petan, Clinton Atkinson and Eric Margo counted for the Express.

Marines Volleyball Teams Wrap Up Regular Season


The VIU Volleyball Teams wrapped up the season with a pair of matches against Camosun.

Both teams won which allowed the Men and Women to each capture regular season titles.

The Women finished at 22-2 while the Men were 20-4.

Provincials start on February 23rd at Douglas College. 

VIU Basketball Preparing for Provincials


The Mariners Basketball Teams finished the season on the weekend and they are moving on to Provincials.

It was nearly a perfect season for the Men finishing in first place at 15-1, while the Women finished second at 14-2.

Provincials start on March 1st, co-hosted by Quest, Langara and Kwantlen.

VIU Athletes Clean Up Player of the Week Awards


VIU Mariners grabbed three of four PacWest athlete of the week awards.

Dani Smith won in women's volleyball. Jocelyn Jones was the women's basketball winner, while Patrick McCarthy grabbed the honor in men's basketball.

This weekend is rivalry weekend for the volleyball teams, as the men and the women get set to host Camosun. Games get going at 6 PM on Friday and Saturday at the VIU gym.
